Wedding Week-Shrimp N Grits

Maybe you already know this from reading this blog, but I'm kind of in to food.  So for my wedding, food was on the top of my list for things that had to be awesome.  My brother had been to a bunch of weddings and he claimed that the best thing he'd had at any wedding were shrimp and grits.  Also, I like shrimp and grits.  So we decided to have a shrimp and grits station at our wedding (with martini glasses).  It was neat and people seemed to enjoy it.  We also had meat, potatoes, salad, chicken cordon blue bites, etc.  The food was pretty awesome.  I was very happy.

After our wedding I found this awesome shrimp and grits casserole recipe.  It is really good.  It's really just grits with a bunch of cheddar cheese and pepper jack cheese, some onions, peppers, rotel and shrimp.  Spicy and Tasty. I pretty much follow those instructions.  Sometimes I add in a little bacon and I usually use regular onion instead of green onions.

The wedding coordinator at the place I had my reception was all like, "you will not eat at your own wedding."   And I was like "uh, yeah I will."  And I did.  I also had someone save me a plate of appetizers from cocktail hour (that I missed because of photos).  I definitely recommend doing that.  Also if you make your bridal party take tons of pictures right after the ceremony, it's nice to have someone bring them drinks and food if possible.  I couldn't do this because I was at a Church but yeah, do it.  They will like you more.

So do people really hate grits?  I mean I get it if you are not super interested in plain grits.

But add a cup of cheese and they are delish.....

So in conclusion.....I really like food, I did eat at my wedding and grits taste great with tons of cheese.

Feelings on grits?
If you are married, did you eat at your wedding?
What is the best food you have ever had at a wedding?

I think shrimp & grits is sooo southern/fusion chic! Honestly... I don't think I've ever had them! I know! I am not a fan of brekfast foods at all and I know these aren't... but they are sort-of to me!? I had hummus & baba ganoushe (sp) and veggies at my cocktail party haha. Yeah, my cousin totally looked out for me and fed me bites. I didn't really get anything too exciting b/c everybody was getting this sit-down dinner w/ filet & chicken and spaghetti squash (random) etc. I am trying to think of the best wedding food I've ever had... is it sad I can't think of the best food? I guess I don't go to a ton of weddings.... or I have uper high-expectations.

I loved the shrimp and grits at your wedding! The food in general was delicious. And those last minute add on chicken cordon blue bites were a great call. Very yummy!

Don't worry at my wedding they are going to set up separate food for the wedding party downstairs during pictures/ cocktail hour. We will even have our own bar down there. Sweet!

i am not a fan of grits...sorry. but i did eat some shrimp and ate AROUND the grits at your wedding. Also, the chicken cordon bleu bites were delish. best food i ever had at a wedding was at my cousin's wedding- they went with what i can only describe as a carnival themed wedding. i had my choice of 5 entrees- i went with filet... it was yummy then there were candy apples and funnel cakes and an espresso bar and it was just flat out ridiculous.

i love grits, even when you get them just plain at a breakfast place, but with cheese they are very very good. The grits at your wedding were tasty and very spicy, making the hot sauce obsolete. Also I recently got grits as just a side at Fishbones and it was soooo good. Its my new fav FB side because im a little sick of the blackened green beans.

I love grits, especially with cheese! Might have to go make some now! Phil and I have talked about having bbq at our wedding, but I don't know how that will turn out.

Grits are delightful. Mariah-I had BBQ at my rehearsal dinner and I went to another Rehearsal Dinner recently with BBQ. They were both good.

I'm sorry...as much as I love you and your blog, I can't get behind grits.

I ate at my wedding for sure! I hadn't had anything but a hunny bun that day because of nerves, so I was starving. I pigged out. I see some discussion of BBQ -- that was my rehearsal dinner meal too!

I was reading a cookbook over the weekend...because that's what I do in my spare time...and I found a shrimp and grits recipe. I've never tried it...though I've had grits and love them...so that recipe is on the meal plan for next week. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I loved ALL the food at your wedding! And aside from being awesome just b/c they're awesome, I liked that the shrimp & grits were served in martini classes. Very cute.

I did NOT eat at my wedding. I drank. I had a piece of cake. It was not ideal, although I heard the food was good. Oh well, it happens :) And I think my wedding planner got you guys mini plates of food while we were waiting for pix ... I hope she did!

That the fanciest-looking shrimp and grits I've ever seen!

Yeah Mo, I think you wedding planner lady brought us food. I actually also don't remember eating that much at your wedding. I do remember carrying around a Margarita and a bottle (a fancy bottle) of water at the same time so I could stay hydrated though.

I liked the fact that when we sat down at the table after our first dance there was like 4 plates of food there...I was confused and thought someone had tried to take our Love Table(I dont think thats what it is called). But then I realized it was for us so I binge ate as fast as I could. I had a serious fear of not eating on our wedding, the only fear I have that is stronger is spiders.

That looks wonderful, JM. Is that the same recipe that is in my Southern Living cookbook?
The beauty of the recipe lies in the low fat content.

I have never ate grits ever. Maybe the cheese would make me like them but I don't know...
